Cables and other twisted knitting stitches make for some of the most captivating knitting patterns. Though they look intricate, they are surprisingly easy to create. Learn how while knitting samplers that you can later turn into a drawstring tote bag. Along the way, you’ll pick up tips for reading charts, reading your knitting, and fixing mistakes.

Materials:
smooth, light colored, worsted-weight wool yarn (about 375 yards, if you wish to complete the drawstring bag); US size 7 (4.5 mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge of 20 sts = 4" (10 cm) measured over stockinette; cable needle (some loaners will be available in class); clip-on stitch markers
Homework: (optional)
Cast on 38 sts, leaving a 24" (60 cm) tail. Work 5 rows of garter st. Do not break yarn.
