Not for me

15 December 2010

The other day I saw a demonstration of bobbin lace. Sheesh, did that lacemaker make those bobbins fly! I have no clue how she could move so fast, yet remember where she was in the pattern.

But even though I’m curious as to how bobbin lace works, even though I’m a skill junkie that likes to collect skills like other people collect stamps or Kewpie dolls, I don't see myself picking up bobbin lace. Tatting, maybe someday, just for yuks. Weaving, definitely, one of these days. But bobbin lace? Nah, no thanks. Too fiddly for me.

Tagged: chit-chat, lace.

"Everyone" says that you can't learn to tat from a book, so of course I had to learn to tat from a book. I made a little bookmark which is very pretty (and purple!), but haven't tatted for a few years and would have to relearn in order to do it again.

I tried bobbin lace once but wasn't motivated to continue with it even enough to do a little project. Beautiful for sure, but not for me.

I have said the same thing until a friend slowed down for me. Twist, twist, cross, repeat. Relaxing and repetitive...now I will have to try it.
